About Kathy

I graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1985, Summa Cum Laude, and a member of Phi Beta Kappa; I double-majored, earning a B.S. in Mathematics and Secondary Education in three years. I completed an M.A. in Mathematics at Vanderbilt in 1988, and it was there that I began teaching; I independently taught one section of Calculus at Vanderbilt each of four semesters. In August 2012, I graduated from Lipscomb University with an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership. I previously held 7-12 Tennessee Teaching and Beginning Instructional Leadership Licenses.

I have been a faculty member at Albuquerque Academy in New Mexico, the Horace Mann School in the Bronx, New York and Harpeth Hall in Nashville, Tennessee. I have classroom experience teaching Geometry, Algebra II, Precalculus, Discrete Math and Calculus and have worked as a private tutor in all of those subjects as well. Prior to joining the staff at Mary Lee Bunch Associates, I was the Assistant Principal at Smithson Craighead Academy Middle School, where I was also the Title I Program Specialist, School Nutrition Manager and Information Technology Coordinator. In addition, I was responsible for Gradespeed administration, scheduling, reporting to the Charter School Office, and Buildings and Grounds. I worked at Mary Lee Bunch Associates from January 2012 to May 2016 and left to resume a private tutoring practice.

In my spare time, I like to play the guitar--check out my YouTube channel. I started playing when I was only 6. I like math, but music is my first love. I'm an alto in the St. Henry Church choir, too.

I love to go walking or hiking in the Warner Parks or on our local greenways. Being out in nature makes me feel like a kid again. I take a lot of pictures on my walks, and I enjoy getting close, but not too close, to the local deer. Every so often I go further afield, either to the South Cumberland Nature Area or to another of Tennessee's beautiful parks. Here's a video of a waterfall hike in Dupont State Forest, NC
